DuoBoots

DUO was created in 1974 by calf fitting boot pioneers, Ted and Muffy Maltby. Their collections of Italian-made shoes sold in their Bath shop gained a reputation for quality and choice and in 2003 they introduced their first range of tailored boots.

Over the following years, Duo’s reputation for high quality fitted footwear grew and they gained a worldwide following of loyal customers.

In 2015 the company changed direction and re-branded to Ted&Muffy, named after its founders. However, customer feedback was clear that the brand’s original name was greatly missed. Following internal changes, the DuoBoots name was re-established in 2017.

Since we rebranded 18 months ago you’ve told us what you love about what we do, and also where we could change in order to do better.

Thanks to your feedback, we have decided to begin re-establishing our original name, one that you know and love - and one that we love too. We are proud of our history and the values that we hold dear haven’t changed. We want our brand name to reflect this.

We’ll be consolidating our design efforts for a few seasons so we can perfect our entire footwear offering. We are focusing on boots first – it’s what we’re known for and we want to ensure our fit and styles options are perfect. This means we won’t be making shoes for the time being. We’ll keep you posted though.

But don’t worry - our core values will never change, ;

  • Timeless designs - our in-house team are already working on an autumn collection that we think you’ll love
  • Unrivalled choice of sizes – the widest range of calf sizes available anywhere. Don’t forget – all our styles come in a choice of calf sizes.
  • Quality - using the finest materials and crafting our products in European factories.

Ted&Muffy were Duo’s original founders and they remain an important part of our footwear history, so you’ll still see the Ted&Muffy name crop up.

Our full transition to DuoBoots will take a little more time and some customers may notice a Ted&Muffy sole stamp on their new boots. This is for a couple of reasons:

From design to launch, our production cycle takes a long time. Some of our forthcoming collection was already in production when we renamed to DuoBoots.

We’ve done a very critical edit of our styles and have only selected boots that meet our new and improved DuoBoots criteria. If your boot does contain a Ted&Muffy sole stamp, you can rest assured that they’re boots we’re proud to call our own.

We’ve been designing and manufacturing perfectly fitting footwear for over 30 years and are using all that experience (including learnings from our Ted&Muffy years) into our new DuoBoots brand. We’re not there yet, but we are working our hardest!

Duo has always been an inclusive fashion brand, and we’re keen to cater for old and new customers alike, balancing style and price.

For the new season, you’ll find ankle boots starting from £120 (which is on a par with original Duo prices from 2014) and our unique calf fitting boots starting from £195.

When it comes to price, Duo historically always sat at the premium end of the high street. Our leather choices, manufacturing process and sizing options meant we could never compete with the fast-fashion chains. But we know Ted&Muffy’s prices were a sore spot for some customers and we’re trying to strike a balance with our new DuoBoots vision.

We discovered some fantastic new leather suppliers during our Ted&Muffy years; we also improved the quality of our components and streamlined some of our behind-the-scenes infrastructure. We believe

In the last five years, leather prices in Spain, Portugal and Italy have increased (even at the budget end of the market which we don’t source from), and so we’ve got to work harder to find quality components. We’re a small independent business and we’ve always worked with independent, family-run factories in Europe. We don’t want to change these foundations, even with the uncertainty of Brexit.

We’re confident that you’ll fall in love with a new pair of DuoBoots and whether you choose a pair of Chelsea boots, a classic riding style or a pair of over-the-knee boots, you’ll find them sensibly priced, reflecting their quality and craftsmanship.

Yes, a little. We are no longer offering narrow fit ankle boots. These were not selling in volumes high enough to make them affordable to produce. However, we’ve been leading the field with the concept of stylish fitted boots for over 30 years now, and our innovative fit concept remains unrivalled.

You’ll still find ankle boots with a choice of foot sizes UK 2-9, many in two width options. Many of our fitted boots go up to a size UK10, and we offer the same comprehensive calf measurements that we’ve always been celebrated for. If you want boots that truly fit, whatever your shape or silhouette, we’re here to help.

We’re lucky to have customers across the globe and our social fans are no different. Some have known us from our formative Duo years, others joined us during the Ted&Muffy part of our story. Whilst we have combined our Facebook pages, our Twitter and Instagram accounts will remain separate.

You will need to create a new account on the new DuoBoots website when you visit for the first time so unfortunately you will not be able to see your order history pre-September 2017.
