Shanade is a Smart Works client who wore a pair of DuoBoots to her interview for an HR assistant with a large company. She found the experience at Smart Works to be very positive and enjoyable.

Shanade told us that she felt really comfortable as soon as she walked into the Smart Works offices and that the whole experience was very helpful. “The right clothes were picked out for me. Really trendy outfits were selected and perfect for my role.”

We asked Shanade how choosing a pair of Duo Boots added to her experience at Smart Works. She told us “They were the icing on the cake. The fit was amazing and they went really well with the dress. I left feeling very confident and ready.”

The result was that Shanade’s interview went brilliantly. She got the job and started the next day. We love a story with a happy ending. Well done Shanade, and well done Smart Works. We are very proud to be part of your programme.

About Smart Works

Smart Works is a UK charity that provides high quality interview clothes, styling advice and interview training to women in need. They give women the confidence, self-belief and practical tools they need to succeed at interview and start a new chapter of their life.

At the core of the service is a dressing and interview appointment at one of the Smart Works centres. During her visit, each woman receives a high-quality interview outfit (theirs to keep) tailored to their taste and style by Smart Works’ stylists. This is followed by dedicated one-to-one interview training with an experienced recruitment, HR or coaching professional.

This short intervention has a significant impact as clients start believing in their own ability to succeed.

This highly successful, two hour core dressing and interview preparation service achieves consistently high levels of success, and is at the heart of everything they do.

The advice and expertise of the volunteer stylists, each client is offered an excellent selection of high quality clothing to wear for their interview. Clothes have a huge impact on how we are perceived by others, particularly when meeting people for the first time. Selecting what to wear for a job interview is a critical element of non-verbal communication, and can be a huge influence on the interviewer when they are deciding who to employ.

Smart Works make sure that clients look fabulous, feel comfortable in the clothes they have chosen, and that they have everything they need from a winter coat to a pair of tights.

Following the dressing session, volunteer interview coaches work one-to-one with each client in a compassionate and supportive way. The interview session focuses on increasing the awareness of strengths, answering questions effectively and understanding what is expected at interview.
